The first graph shows the total amount (cumulative) lent to prosper borrowers by origination date. The second graph shows the amount loaned by month (not cumulative). The second graph is by listing start date (not origination date) so the totals for a month may not be finalized until a week or two into the next month. Note that neither of these graphs take into consideration loan repayment.

Also note that the graph will usually show a drop off in the most recent month. This is probably not because there was actually a drop off, but rather because loans can take a week or two from the time they close to the time they actually originate, and because the most recent month is of course not yet finished.
