My name is Calvin. I have spent the last 25 years developing skills in public relations, marketing, and promotions via a career in radio. During my recent 3 year tenure as Program Director for the marketing leading Top-40 radio station in Macon, GA, I worked closely with local vendors and promotional investors to plan and execute quarterly events which lead to ratings and revenue growth. The most recent event, a "007 New Year's Celebration", was a huge success with over 450 people in attendance and great returns for our investors.
After 3 years of hard work and dedication without a raise or being considered for new positions or opportunities within the company, my employment with the company was terminated on January 19. I was informed that while I did a great job finding outside funding and a wonderful venue to host the "007 New Year's Celebration", I was not given the authority to sign the contract to lease the venue where it was held. Because the additional promoters that I partnered with decided to sell alchol at the event, my signature on the contract for the venue put the company in libel. I was not informed beforehand that I could not sign the contract or that the General Manager was the only person who could authorize the leasing. Therefore, the decision was made that my mistake was too risky for the company to continue a relationship with me. I was given two weeks severance and released.
I am a single father doing my best to positively encourage and raise my 5 year old son. So, after moving 11 times during the course of developing my career, I made a decision to act upon my years of exprience and use the knowledge I have gained to work closely with people whom I have developed solid relationships and begin my own PR/Marketing - Communications company. I have named it GBG Media. Using my 2006 income tax return, 401(k) investments, and some of my savings, I have taken this tremendous leap of faith and I truly believe that it will be successful.
The company is GBG Media and if you'll bear with me, I'll explain the meaning of the acronym. First, I'd like to explain the steps I have taken to get the project up and running. I have purchased and registered the website domain. (You can visit the "makeshift" site at http://www.gbgmedia.com) I have researched and negotiated a great price with the leading web site developer in the area. I have also contracted an agreement with a dynamic graphic artist/designer to develop the logo/brand for GBG. In addition, I have purchased a notebook PC, software to design presentations and proposals, as well as execute email marketing.
Taking full advantage of my relationships in the community, I have already secured an annual contract for a weekly event at a local venue each Wednesday night that will generate $1000.00 / month. In addition, I have a six month contract to host monthly signature events at Macon's leading nightclub with projections of $2500.00 - $3000.00 / month. (My first event at the nightclub is slated for Tuesday, February 20, 2007...it's a "Fat Tuesday Celebration".)
I am hoping to secure a loan of $5000.00. I will use 66% of it to continue the development of the company; website, logo, business cards-stationery, external promotional/marketing items. With the remaining 33% I will pay off a couple of outstanding debts which will improve and increase my credit rating.
Finally, I aspire to inspire others through my actions. I truly believe the only thing that keeps us from achieving anything in life...is us. The only failure is in not trying. I assure you that this risk I am taking did not arrive from a manic though, but it is truly GBG...Guided By Grace and surely my vision will become a reality with the help and support of people like you.Thank you for your time and consideration. |
