I don't have a sob story; I'm just a person who got way over my head in debt over the past 10 years - moving, job-hunting while paying my rent with credit cards, traveling to visit friends & family and attend seemingly neverending weddings (always on the opposite coast!). I just behaved stupidly, what can I say? I have not used any of my cards in several months and have never made a late payment or missed a payment. I currently spend almost half of what I take home to pay down debt! So, yes, I'm learning my lesson, but these cards who charge me 30% interest are just maddening! I will use this loan to pay off my two worst cards: I have $4500 with Chase at 29.99% (!!) and $1000 with a company where I bought a furniture set - fell for the "2 years with no interest" deal and then they very conveniently waited until the day after my cutoff date to apply a balance transfer, and, ta da - I get to pay an extra $1500 for my $2200 furniture set! I'll say it again - maddening!! I honestly would prefer to pay a high interest rate if it were going to an actual person instead of just making Chase richer.... Here's an idea of my current budget: I take home about $3000 each month $720 goes to rent & utilities $112 goes to car insurance $1300 to pay off credit cards $300 to savings/mutual funds And the rest goes to food, gas, cell phone, clothing & shoes (though not much goes that way anymore! I'm learning!), etc. I am the HR Manager for a commercial real estate investment company in California. I have lived in many states, and I have friends all over the place who I enjoy visiting and staying in touch with via email. I've kicked my ridiculous shopping habit and learned to live within a budget, so now I'd just love to pay the debt off in 3 years instead of 5 or 6! I just heard about this website on NPR and thought it was the greatest idea! I've often wished I knew some people with money to spare who wouldn't mind helping me out while making money in the process. Amazing. Thanks for reading about my situation, and I hope someone out there is willing to help me out! |
