I'm a state employee in an environmental field, looking to consolidate my debt. For a few years after college, I worked seasonal jobs, and got a permanent job just over two years ago. Between the seasonal work and some travel recently for family reasons, a racked up some debt. The worst of it is the overdraft loan I used from my bank. This has ended up being very high interest, and along with my credit cards means I have 3 payments to make every month. I have told my bank to close the overdraft protection from use, and let me just make payments to it. If I can consolidate my payments into one, everything will be easier to keep track of, and I'll pay less interest. Lumping the payments into one will not free up much spending money, but it will make paying off the debt much easier. I've always paid my bills on time, even when I didn't make very much money or have steady work. I now have a very secure job and still always pay my bills on time. I'm looking to this as an alternative to going through an actual debt consolidation company. Monthly Income: $1682 (after what gets direct deposited into savings) Expenses: Rent: $450 Utilities: $130 Phone: $40 Insurance: $69 Credit Cards: $150 Bank Payments: $220 Groceries: $200 Gas: $100 Free Cash: $323 a month |
