My name is Ben Whalen. I am happily married and have been for 20 years to a wonderful lady. We have 7 children between the two of us, three of which are still at home, ages 17, 15, 13. My downward spiral began about 4.5 years ago when I lost my father and had to care for my mother for some time, exhausting my leave of absence benefit and becoming unemployed for approximately 6 months. 18 months ago, our family relocated to the North Bay, Ca, to assist my wife in caring for her aged father. This has been a real culture shock as the cost of living is double what we were accustomed to, especially housing. In addition, our 17 year old was involved in two auto accidents between April 06 and June 06. We are thankful that she sustained only minor abrasions.
