A landslide that took our house on January 3rd 1997. Over the last 10 years that event has fairly shaped our financial life. We undertook an 8 year lawsuit which resulted in barely enough money for the three impacted families to tear down the heavily damaged structures and regrade the lot which has been for sale since then. We have had two offers - both of which resulted in the intended buyer walking away from the purchase. It is time to take the matter into our hands and start working to reduce the credit card and other debt that accumulated with the landslide and lawsuit as well as, the closing of our internet web hosting company in 2003. While we continue to work to sell the land (1515 Lakeview Blvd East in Seattle, Washington) - which sits barely 3 miles north of downtown Seattle - we can not wait for that cash to help resolve our current debt.
As the 10 year anniversary of the slide approaches - want to see future anniversaries in much better shape financially - and without any drastic measures. We chose to sue the builder et al and try to regain what we lost - in hindsight maybe not the best decision but the one we made. We have never defaulted on any of the mortgage or loans we took for either the house or internet business and continue to pay our debt but not making much headway on much of it. An opportunity to start consolidating our debt and payoff in 3 years puts us on a better path. Time to focus on what we can do - not what has already been done. |
