Hi all, My name is Ed and I am the father of two beautiful children, ages 14 and 11. I am currently employed full-time in sales and part-time as a real estate agent. I completed my Master of Arts degree in 1996 and my real estate license in 2004. In February of 2006, I found it necessary to file for divorce; as of June 1, 2006, my divorce was finalized. As a result of the divorce, I was required to pay a total if $1,000 per month for a total of 24 months (totaling $24,000). To date I have paid $5,000. The burden of paying this large monthly payment, in additional to child support, has made my financial situation very tight. To date, I have good credit and have not made a late payment to any of my creditors. In May of 2006, I left my home and moved to a nearby city to begin a new life. I maintain regular visits with my children and support them both emotionally and financially. The reason for my request is to lower my monthly expenses and successfully manage my finances. To assist me in this process, I have traded in my Nissan Altima for a Nissan Sentra and lowered my monthly car payment, insurance, as gas expenditures by nearly half. I have also been very proactive in paying off as much of my debt as possible to start anew. To receive a lump sum of $10,000, I will be paid in advance on my monthly spousal maintenance (alimony) through October 2007. In addition, it will leave me with only an $8,000 amount to be paid. I will pay the remainder of this debt by putting my real estate license to use and applying all commissions from home sales to this debt. The following budget will describe how the debt will be re-paid.
