I am 36 years old & have been married for 14 years. I have been an RN for 2.5 years. Prior to that, I worked as a bank manager for 12 years.

Impeccable credit prior to 2002 when my husband was diagnosed with Hep. C and liver failure. He underwent treatments. (Oral meds & shots to the stomach every 3 days). Unfortunately, treatments did not work. He cannot work due to fatigue, inability to concentrate, etc. Prior to this, he owned his own roofing contractor business and averaged $4500 per month take home after paying expenses and employees. At the time of diagnosis, I had left the bank to pursue nursing school and only worked weekends at the hospital.

Faced with no other option, we filed Chapter 7 in Oct. 2003.

Fast Forward to 2006
My husband just received his approval for SSI in July. They didn't start paying for his medications until 9/06. We had some pretty costly medications (our share $600/mo) and we didn't have the excess each month to cover them out of pocket, so unfortunately, I went the credit card angle. I have made payments each month and avoided being late on my accounts. I am overlimit on my cards, but have been working to place any extra toward those balances. I also received a notice of a medical bill (from before SSI) that has gone to collection.
