I want to thank you for viewing my listing. I also wish to thank the wonderful folks who took the time and opportunity to bid on my previous loan request. Despite that it was not fully funded, I am very encouraged about the support that these folks exhibited. I am placing this loan request to start a small family owned business in San Francisco. I am married and have a two-year old daughter. I work full time as a Federal Officer with the Department of Treasury and will retire in 21 years. I am 35 and have been employed with Treasury for 12 years. I am starting this business to supplement my income (allow my wife to remain as a stay at home mom) and not replace my current position. The business that I wish to start is a Patrol Special Police business. I live in San Francisco and have been appointed by San Francisco Police Chief Heather Fong (http://www.sfgov.org/site/police_index.asp?id=24103) as a San Francisco Patrol Special Police Officer Assistant. I current work a beat for a beat owner. The Patrol Special Police (http://www.sfpatrolspecpolice.com/) predates the San Francisco Police Department and was formed in the 1840?s. We are paid for our services from the merchants and residents that we serve and take no taxpayer dollars. We are authorized to use the San Francisco Police Department?s Radio and Dispatch system and patrol the streets of San Francisco. Each beat is individually owned by a beat owner who is appointed by the Police Commission (http://www.sfgov.org/site/police_index.asp?id=20446). We are supervised by San Francisco Police and the Police Commission. The business of the Patrol Special Police is an amazing opportunity as the overhead for this business once a beat is owned is insurance, gasoline and uniforms. I already have printed business cards, own a Police radio, own all of the required gear and carry Star 2594. The background investigation required for appointment is extensive and I passed it with flying colors. The current owners of beats are aging as many Patrol Specials were already retired when they entered the business. There are several beats for sale, which is the purpose of this loan. I wish to borrow funds to purchase a beat from an existing owner and fund the required insurances. I would like to hire an employee as the business grows. I am currently working 7 days a week (4-10?s for Treasury and 3 nights for a beat owner) so it is my goal to grow the beat and hire someone as soon as fiscally possible. Because of the small number of beat owners and assistants, we are a tight group and often help cover each other for scheduling. I have formed relationships with current beat owners who will assist me so that I will not be working 7 nights a week. My business plan is to purchase and work a beat adjacent to my home. I have a vested interest in dealing with the quality of life issues that effect my community. The San Francisco Police department does an amazing job with the funding it receives but it is often unable to deal with the types of issues that we call quality of life issues such as public intoxication, graffiti and loitering. This is not because they could not or will not but because they are understaffed and over worked. The Patrol Special Police is in an amazing position to take the pressure off of SFPD and provide services to the community. This is what I intend to do. I have been working on this plan for over two years, have researched all angles, have the local community and my families support in making this happen.
