Right now I am thanking the heavens that a site of this nature exists! My fiance and I were faced with a life-altering event 2 weeks ago. Out of the blue he was contacted with an incredible new job offer (he was an FX trader on Wall Street but will now be relocating to Greenwich, CT). This means that we are moving from downtown Manhattan to a town midway between NYC and Greenwich. While this helps us save money in the long run the problem it is presenting to us is that we have to break our present lease (2235/mo for a studio) and rent a new apartment in Mamaroneck. The total cost of this relocation (including a 2 month penalty that our building has imposed upon us for breaking the lease DESPITE the fact we have found them a new tenant whom will be paying more than we are presently for the room) is upwards of $10,000 over the next 3 weeks. Writing a check for this amount has emptied our savings (We just finished paying off student loans from Princeton University and MSU) and we are now looking to take out a loan to help us with this move and also a few other expenses that we will face since we are moving into a Co-Op. The money that is not used towards the move will go to pay off one credit card bill that has been around since college in addition to having my wisdom teeth pulled (PhD students do not have the best dental insurance!!)
On that note, I should add a bit about my profession. I am currently a PhD student in Molecular Genetics/Microbiology. I have no student loans taken out towards my PhD, and receive a stipend so I will have no problem making the payments with my fiance. I also work as a freelance scientific researcher for a law firm, which provides a steady income in addition to the stipend.
Neither my fiance nor I have ever had a problem with credit or making payments on a loan or credit card. We are hoping to pay this loan off sooner than 3 years and are confident that this goal is one that we can easily reach. I offer so much detail in the above paragraph to show that we are incredible candidates for a loan. Both of us attended top tier universities, graduated recently, and were still able to pay off our student loans, other credit card bills, AND pay 2235/mo for a home office studio without a problem. If we did not have to supply so much cash in a short amount of time this would not be a problem but we now place ourselves on the mercy of Prosper and hope that there are people out there willing to help us a bit :)
My pictures above are of my fiance and I as well as the 2 loves of our life.
Thank-you to everyone who has read this and double thanks to all of those who choose to help us at this time. I appreciate it more than any of you will ever know! |
