I started a home business selling children's clothing, gifts and embroidery in January. I had no sewing experience and went out and purchased three sewing machines. A serger, one that does 80 different sewing stitches and an embroidery only machine. The machines cost about $2200 total and then another $500 on rayon embroidery thread. I went to the fabric store and purchased lots of material, silks, cottons, french chenilles. I have put about $9-$10 thousand into my company. I taught myself to sew late at night while my two young children are sleeping. I have created summer clothing and sold most of it. I earn about 80% markup on each item sold. I emborider names on towels and have sold lots of those but my biggest seller has been toddler sized pillow that I make and then embroider a child's name on the end of it.
The raw material including pillow cost $6 and I am selling them consistently for $15.
I have used up the majority of my savings and rainy day fund. I have a very large show on November 1st where I am aimed at selling in excess of $1500 that day. I am going to premier my "boutique children's overalls" and sell them at $60 each. I have allready sold the three sample pair I have created and made and have people asking for more all the time.
I have tried having a garage sale to earn enough money for inventory but I only made $364 at it.
I need to purchase new overalls (I wait until JC Penney is selling them buy 1 get 1 for 88cents and then I use a 15% coupon with the sale)
I need to purchase embelishing material for my overalls.
I am going to be making linen guest towels for holiday presents, I have 20 of them now but would like another 20
I also need to purchase holiday 100% cotton and flannel fabrics for pillowcases (again I get this material when I have a 60% off coupon)

I have a strong work ethic and am persistent in selling. If something is not right, I change it and when I sell something I ask that the buyer contact and let me know if something is not right so I can make it better.

Thank you for your help!
