After finishing graduate school, I worked two years for an international aid organization in Kosovo, Afghanistan and India (see my profile picture from Afghanistan... I'm the one on the middle left without a head scarf). Although the work was amazing, both incredibly fulfilling and humbling at the same time, I decided to return to the U.S. to be closer to family and have some long-term social/emotional stability.
I did have some savings that I thought would last until I found a job in the U.S. However, I wasn't prepared for how difficult it would be to find a job. After 4 months of searching, I am lucky to have landed a junior professional position with a U.S. federal agency. Moving to DC from Nebraska, paying for new professional clothing, renting an apartment, and paying about $300 per month in student loans... all of these have resulted in a higher amount on my single credit card than I've ever had in my entire life.
I'm at a point now at which I don't need to put anything else on the card, but paying it off at a 17% APR will be brutal. It'd be really great to pay it off at a lower interest rate.... and to show Citibank who's boss! Aww yeah. Thanks so much in advance for your help. |
