Purpose of loan: This loan will be used to help my sister buy a car. My sister is a young, struggling, hard working single mother. She is 20 years old with a two year old son. Because she is no longer with her baby's father, she has a hard time trying to get around living in Sacramento (an ultimate sprawl city w/ crappy public transportation). My father left to the Philippines as soon as I started college, and even living with him as I was growing up, we were a low income family. This is why I was motivated to achieve a higher education, as I am now in my senior year pursuing my bachelor's degree at the University of California, Berkeley. While I do get a lot of help from Financial Aid, it isn't enough to help my sister out b/c the cost of living in the Bay Area is so expensive. My sister is also going to school full time at a community college and is about to declare a degree to transfer. But she is struggling on a day to day basis trying to make sure that she is able to take her son to school (Headstart), while being able to attend school twice a week, as well as working full time at the Macaroni Grill as a hostess. My sister and I are the only family we've got- we have to look out for each other- and I truly appreciate any help to pass on her. My financial situation: I am a good candidate for this loan because I am a responsible, hard working student. Ever since I've started college, I have been very good with budgeting my money. Every semester, I get approximately $4500 from financial aid. On top of that, I currently work 10 hours part-time as a student assistant on campus making $12/hr. I also am an intern for the city of Berkeley Land Use Planning Department, where I work 14 hours a week making $15/hr. Although, I'll be graduating in December, I am very confident in maintaining a job within the city planning field. My sister and I have tried the dealerships, but because my credit history is not long enough, we are unable to get anything we can afford. So we have decided to just get her a car "off the street," so she wouldn't have to deal w/ monthly payments. In terms of what I could afford to help her out, $3000 would be affordable for both of us. Monthly net income: approximately $1000 Monthly expenses: $ Housing: $ 400 (budgeted from my financial aid) Car expenses: $ 143 Utilities: approximately $ 45 Phone, cable, internet: approximately $ 80 Food, entertainment: approximately $ 200 Clothing, household expenses $ Credit cards and other loans: approximately $ 100 Other expenses: $ |
