I am re-listing this because I realized one of my credit cards has a low rate and I will be paying that off with my no shopping plan. I am freeing myself from debt so I can go back to school and study foreign languages to work with international students. I am a very responsible person who had a rough year being out of work for 5 months due to my boss' financial situation. And about $3000 in school debt. I also had a substantial amount of medical bills due to an MS scare I had a few months ago. I had insurance but some MRIs are just not covered. That is how I got into debt. Now how do I plan on getting out with or without Prosper? I am planning on selling my personal belongings to live as spartan a life as possible but still have the necessities. Due to moving and reading many books on money and the materialism in this world, I have decided to get rid of unnecessary stuff that just clutters up my life. I've read some amazing books that have changed my mindset. I mean with less stuff, I have more time, and less to clean. Plus, hopefully I can be wise in the future again about purchases and so, this year, modeling my life somewhat after a book, at least the title, I haven't bought the book, I will not shop for a whole year. By not shopping I mean only buying necessities such as food and gas and paying bills for my phone and electricity and water. I have no internet, no cable, and am cutting back wherever necessary. Yet, I still intend to tithe where I feel the Lord calling me to send support. That is one of the main reasons I want to get out of debt. In getting out of debt and going back to school to further my education, I can "earn more, save more, and give more" as one pastor quoted John Wesley. In addition, I promised myself that I would be debt-free before I got married. I have been able to make the payments on my credit cards without any problem except that the high interest rate would put me in debt for 5 years instead of the 3 or in my case, 1 year out of debt that I would like to achieve. And with not shopping all year, I should be able to pay this off easily. |
