ABOUT ME: I?m 32 years old, recently divorced, and a single father. My daughter is 12 years old. My son is 8 years old. I?ve been in the U.S. Air Force for 11 years now. EXPLANATION OF CREDIT: In all honesty I mostly have to simply chalk it up to youthful ignorance. Most of my financial mishaps were made in an effort to save my marriage. Other financial mishaps were made in an effort to help family and friends around me that where in need. In the process of being so freehearted to the people around me, I failed to realize two things: 1) Everyone that you keep company with doesn?t necessarily have your best interest at heart. Some people stay close to benefit from you. When there?s nothing more to gain, they?re no longer around. 2) Knowing the difference between WANTS vs. NEEDS and living within my financial means is crucial to staying out of debt. Having learned this, I?ve made great efforts to set myself on the road to being debt free. I cut up all of my credit cards 17 months ago, and enrolled in CareOne Credit Counseling Service.
