I?m 65 years old, semi-retired and married. We live in Orlando, Florida. I?m one of the three equal owners of Frey Water Systems, Inc. (www.freywater.com), and I keep the books for the company. My income is comprised of payment for the bookkeeping plus override on sales, my Social Security benefit and a small pension from a previous employer. I also earn money from a pet-sitting business I set up about a year ago. My wife has a secure, salaried position. Our combined minimum annual income is approximately $75,000. We have a first and a second mortgage (both fixed-rate) with a combined monthly PITI payment of about $2000 and one small car loan ($152 a month). I carry enough life insurance to pay off both mortgages. Until recently, I?ve been able to keep our credit card debt to a minimum by using our AMEX gold card wherever possible and paying the balance in total each month. But unexpected expenses have caused me concern, and I?m beginning to look for alternatives to credit cards or other commercial sources of funds - not only for the sake of simplicity but also to obtain better terms. |
