LOAN IS FOR: Urgent home improvements (furnace, electrical, etc) and paying off the credit cards used to fund improvements prior to move-in, while still paying rent elsewhere.

Due to an unexpected death in my family, my partner and I will be moving from a rented apartment to a family-owned home on Jan 1, 2008. We?ll pay no rent or mortgage, but will be responsible for the repairs and upkeep of this 100 yr. old house. We did not anticipate this move, and therefore had no money put aside for home improvement.

The house is structurally sound but needs a new furnace, electrical upgrades and fully functional appliances right away (minor repairs/cosmetic improvements can wait). We are capable of doing most of the work ourselves and will be as frugal as possible, hopefully spending less than we have estimated.

PLEASE NOTE:
1) We?ll be living rent-free as of Jan. 1, so paying this loan will not be difficult. Money earmarked for rent will simply pay the loan (and more) instead!

2) Contrary to my credit profile, I have $0 delinquent. I?ve had credit trouble in the past, but have been in good standing for several years, and am still trying to clear up inaccuracies on my reports. I recently sued a creditor who has harassed/reported me unfairly for 7 yrs--and won. I?m still chipping away at the other negative marks.

3) I have set the interest rate for this loan at the maximum amount allowed for my state.

ABOUT ME:
I'm 33, a Graphic Designer with the same company for 5 yrs. I sell original artwork on the side. I have an English/Studio Arts B.A. from a great college and an exemplary employment history. I try to live conscientiously, responsibly and simply.

This will be my second Prosper loan; I currently have one in repayment. It?s been such a positive experience I'd rather use Prosper over any other lender for this! It?s nothing short of a blessing to have the help and trust of so many people when a bank won?t help you.

MY CREDIT:
I got my financial education the hard way and my credit's been paying the price for years. When I was young and new to credit, I maintained good credit on paper, but was not financially responsible or secure. In 2001, I experienced one crisis after another and my credit quickly hit rock bottom as I struggled to cope with my many problems.

By the end of 2002, I got a handle on my money issues. I changed jobs, moved to a less expensive area, made sacrifices, and devoted myself to financial recovery. I've put a lot of energy into educating myself about finance, paying down debt, and using my money responsibly. It's been the most excruciating, humbling and empowering process of my life. I've accepted my mistakes and see them as valuable lessons. I know I?m on the right track and am proud of my progress.

For several years, I?ve reduced my spending, stayed on top of my bills, invested money through work and have successfully fought back against some unscrupulous creditors (I beat one in court just recently!) I?ve made great progress, despite what my credit report says, and I'm confident in my ability to handle borrowed money wisely.
