I am a full-time student paying her own way through school. I am 8 months shy of graduating with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Music with a concentration in Artistic Direction. I am currently researching Graduate programs to further my studies. I aspire to teach at the University level or in a professional company. I am trying to get out of school as fast as possible so I can work and pay off the debt fast. I took time off of work (prior military) to go back to school to do something I really enjoy. I didn?t want a job that I would hate to go to everyday. Education however, is expensive these days and I have had to take out loans to pay for the rising costs. In addition I hold 3 jobs to pay the rest. Unfortunately, this year I am maxed out on the amount of aid the government is allowed to give per year. This leaves the rest of the balance up to me. I have pleaded with the school to give me more money, which they won?t. Also, I have been to the area credit unions and banks and asked them the same thing. They don?t want to give a loan to someone with a debt ratio like mine. What they don?t understand or chose not to, is the debt is because of school. I wouldn?t put myself in this situation unless I was trying to better myself. I am not frivolously spending money. I have had to charge books and tuition on the two credit cards I have and the other are loans. The way the school works here is you must pay your balance every term or lose your seat in class. So I paid with the means that I had. I am so close to graduating that I can?t afford to lose my seat. I can?t make the amount I owe the school by the registration closing date for the next term (Dec. 1st). What I am looking for is a loan that will cover the remaining cost of books and tuition, and housing for the next 2 terms. In addition I added a little extra so I can pay off at least one my revolving credit lines. These I would love to get rid of. I hate having open credit cards. Trust me I hate debt. I pay my bills on time for a reason. I do have another Prosper loan which I have always paid. That went to pay for one of terms last year. I currently make $1600-$1800 per month. The money is a combination of the 3 jobs, and the Montgomery GI Bill. (The GI Bill is not counted as income with the IRS so isn't reflected in my annual income) I have included my budget: Credit Card: $183 (I charged books and tuition) Personal Loan: $101 (Loan taken out for school) Prosper Loan: $107 Car Payment: $297 ( I bought this car before I started back in school) Car Insurance/Renters Insurance: $70 Phone: $55 Misc. Expenses (gas, food, etc). $120 Total: approx. $933 My DTI is high due to school loans through financial aid. I don?t pay on these until I complete school. Any additional debt is due to charging school to the credit card, and the car loan. I have never had late payments and try to make extra payments when I can. I hate being in debt, and plan to get out as quick as possible. So finishing school up fast will help with this. I do pay the school roughly $500 a month for tuition and housing. I would much rather pay on a loan at half of that cost and send the remaining budgeted money to other bills. What is left over goes to savings and some of it goes to paying extra on bills. I try to pay off bills as fast as possible. I usually do so by working as much as possible between school terms. |
