Purpose of loan: I am doing research on microfinance and social lending for my PhD. I will be using these funds to turn around and reinvest as part of my research on the determinants of risk and return for social lending. My financial situation: I recently retired early from the aerospace and defense industry after many years (although I still work part-time as a consultant for my old employer) to go back to school for my PhD. I already have an MBA, and my eventually plan is to spend my second career (since I'm still reasonably young) as a business school professor once I finish my doctorate. While I am in school, we are living off my research assistantship stipend (17K), plus the income from four investment properties, my consulting work, and other investments. Monthly net income: $8200 Monthly expenses: $ Housing: $ 1200 Insurance: $ 300 Car expenses: $200 Utilities: $ 200 Phone, cable, internet: $ 150 Food, entertainment: $ 600 Clothing, household expenses $ 240 Credit cards and other loans: $ 300 Other expenses: (mortages on investment properties) $ 4100 |
