I am pleased to be
associated with the Harvard alumni group.
I graduated with an MBA.
My parents were immigrants and the
expectations for my success, let alone in business, were never high. Thus,
graduating from Harvard meant a lot to me and to others around me.That said, instead of heading for the corporate boardroom I turned toward the environment...well before Al Gore wrote his book In 1989 we were on the forefront of the movement at a time when no one really cared. My point: without my Harvard degree I probably would never have worked with enormously talented and dedicated people particularly those in developing countries.I started my own company which is about to enter its first major round of funding. Not a tech. firm, but one using a based manufacturer and one hiring people in the ? one of my goals. I refinanced my home several times and have pressed on the support and patience of my family to do this.Hit with some serious health issues, I applied for and received a small Prosper loan which I have serviced excellently. Now, with capital infusion in sight, I am caught in a very difficult situation.I have been consulting, a job I applied for through the Harvard Alumni Job Bank, while I wait to close the funding deal. My clients have been terrific and together we achieved key success milestones. The job is funded by SBA. Since July, however, my invoices, and other consultant's, suddenly weren't paid. I have ones that are 90 days+ overdue and there is no indication that they will be paid soon. Of all times for consulting work which I have completed not to pay off. In addition, with this funding opportunity I have paid some extraordinary expenses (nothing I can or could postpone) and some more to do. In the past, I turned to a re-fi on my house or an equity line but this is not possible with the current real estate market. At this 11th hour I am nervous that I will let a lot of people down, particularly those who have counted on salaries and back pay, if I am not able to make it to the finish line- good families who would struggle in this economy of our?s.This is why I am asking my fellow Harvard alums for help. I wanted to be able to be a lender, and I expect to do so once my company is fully funded and able to pay off my Prosper loans, but here I am asking for a bridge. I have been fortunate to earn a Harvard MBA; fortunate to work on important social issues and to build a company from concept to major funding. I have never been a quitter. I am determined I will get to the finish line; a lot of people are counting on me. And I humbly ask for help. |
