I am a single 25 year old male born and raised on the south side of Atlanta. Like many young (and older) people today, I've accumulated too much credit card debt, and find myself making very little progress in reducing it. I was encouraged by my mom, also a Utopia member, to give this a try. She had a great experience with you, receiving funding a few months ago. I graduated high school, attended 2 years of college, but found myself going nowhere. Working in warehousing, an honest hard day's work, I was not moving forward. In Feb 05, I was laid off due to a plant closure. What could have been a bad experience ended up being the best thing that could have happened. It forced me to make a change. I began sending resumes and applying to various counties and cities for firefighter and/or correctional officer positions. In May of 2005, I was hired as correctional officer for a county south of Atlanta. This may sound strange, but I love my job. It is interesting, rarely boring, sometimes exciting, great benefits, good pay and room to move up, and great job security (jails don't close). I am now earning 20% more annually than at my previous job, will receive a 5% increase in July, will complete schooling that will lead to certification, allowing me more opportunity for promotion and further increases. I realize my debt ratio is high, and I am not proud of that, but I am proud that through all the difficulties I have always paid my debts and on time, maintained a decent credit score, and have taken responsibility for myself. By using this loan to pay off a couple of cards, I will not increase my monthly payment, but will reduce the time it would take to pay off the cards. Within 10 months, my vehicle will be paid in full, along with a couple of other accounts, further reducing my debt. It is my goal to be able to purchase a home within 2 to 3 years. I am old school when it comes to working and taking responsibility. I will repay this loan. Thank you in advance for your consideration. |
