I reported it to Prosper a couple of days ago. (Yeah, and so what?)

The bank account was verified when the bidding closed. Now it's not. Prosper CS hasn't responded yet to my question about that.

Well, Andrew has said on .com that might be due to the account being closed, or the borrower denying a Prosper ACH after the loan funded. All the more reason I think it's fraud.

Was enough borrowed in any one state to make absconding with the cash more than a misdemeanor?

Good point... You would think for 25K there would be a check for W2 or other paperwork. What is even more scary is: what if no investigation goes through all the way until after it's turned over for collections for a month, they locate the real person and he denies he ever took out this loan, and it's been MONTHS before any real investigation goes on versus trying to catch the person(s) now if it is fraud.

If you're in Texas, raise your hand. :-)
I found a Prosper message dated 8/9, in reply to my first question about this. They said that they would contact the borrower directly.

The listing does seem to good to be true, but maybe it is a good listing. I noticed that the borrower shows she had 1 previous loan. Doesn't this mean accounts were verified etc.?? Isn't there a paper trail worth investigating?? Did prosper do the proper verification process?? If this is fraud, wouldn't prosper be liable for allowing it to happen?? I'm hoping this is just overreacting on our part.

I am in tx! I have not received any info about this listing. I have been reviewing this listing once again..it's really fishy. If you are would put your daughter's pic on the website..how come you wouldn't put your own pic on there yet chose some default pic. I would be guessing maybe she's going through a divorce process and now getting all the cash at hand and trying to screw the other party with debts.

something i hate about prosper is when things are not late, we can't do much about it but sit and wait for some company going after the late loans...ahhhrrr

this is my first real late. When, if ever, does prosper give any information? I'd like to know if they can even contact this person, if they have vanished, if he is just refusing to pay, etc .... Can you contact prosper or is that a black hole?

Rainmakers: If you read through the forums, you'll find that Propser generally does not provide customer service to borrowers or to lenders -- EVER. It's been 3 weeks since I emailed support. Haven't heard a thing and don't expect to until the loan is sold.

Chamatrain: Thank you for the info. I did read the forums and the information I was reading is along the lines of what you are saying, although, I have to admit, it is much more unsettling when it is happening to yourself. As already stated on the forums, it makes lending on prosper a little more nerve-racking. Sure seems like an area that prosper could improve ... to say the least.

Got a response from Prosper today. Just said that the account was either frozen by the bank or closed by the borrower and that Prosper will contact the borrower for a new account. No response to my question about possible fraud.

I seriously think that prosper should be partially liable for letting this happen, question is how do we make the own up?? Yes I am assuming this is fraud, it just looks too funny, hows this for a name "GloFletchMe". With a little rearranging of the letters"Go Fetch Mell" could this be a spouse setting up his or her insignificant other in a divorce?? Ok, Maybe just the conspiracy theorist in me, maybe not! I feel that we were taken for an easy ride, call us stupid for bidding, BUT did prosper due its due diligence in making sure this was a good deal? How are we to know? What can we do to find out if this was prospers mistake for not making sure this was a legit person?? I don't mind losing a hundred bucks over my own stupidity, but if Prosper has made mistakes they should be held liable as well. BTW I bid on this because it showed the borrower with 1 previous loan. Now it is not shown if you look for it! Whats up with that, a little cover up??

sagarmatha, you must have misread where it showed "1 previous listing" and thought it said "1 previous loan". You can see there were two listings total: http://www.prosper.com/groups/member_home.aspx?screen_name=GloFletchMe&display_mode=3

I confirm what sagarmatha wrote. I've got a screen shot of the loan listing, captured on July 4th, which mentions one previous loan.
