Purpose of loan: We would like to increase the value of our home by finishing our basement. Besides the increase in equity that this additional 1,600 sq. ft. of living space will provide, it would also give a safe place for our teenage daughter and friends to "hang out", rather than having them looking for places to go. We have recently experienced a high number of teenage traffic accidents and alcohol related incidents in our area, including the death of a friend of my daughter's who she went to school with and we would like to try to do something to get more kids to stay in a safer environment to watch movies, play games, listen to music, etc. while having some adult supervision. We know we cannot keep all of the automobile accidents or alcohol related incidents from occurring but, we want the kids to come to our house in the evenings or after football games in the fall, rather than looking for places to go or things to do. The increase in value to our home will be an added benefit as we can conservatively estimate that this amount of finished, heated living space will add $ 25,000 - $ 30,000 to the home value. Ideally, we would have preferred to have finished saving to complete the basement without borrowing and have saved $ 5,400.00 of the approx $ 15,000.00 that it is going to cost to complete the basement but we now feel like this is something that we need to go ahead and do. My financial situation: We are a middle-class, conservative family who believe in paying our debts and have never defaulted on any loan or credit that we have had. Our credit was dinged a few years ago due to an extended illness but, we are back on track now and my wife has gone back to work full-time so adding this payment to our budget is something that we can do. I have been employed by the same company for the past 28+ years and will celebrate my 29 year service anniversary at the end of May. Monthly net income: $ I currently make $ 110,000.00 per year and can provide current paystubs or W2's substantiating that amount for the past 3 years. Monthly expenses: $ Housing: $ 2,840.00 Insurance: $ 400.00 Car expenses: $ 425.00 Utilities: $ 300.00 Phone, cable, internet: $ 160.00 Food, entertainment: $ 350.00 Clothing, household expenses $ 200.00 Credit cards and other loans: $ 950.00 Other expenses: $ 300.00 Total: 5925.00 With my wife now working full-time and my salary, we will clear $7,300.00 per month giving us $1,300.00+ to pay Prosper and any other debts that we can pay extra on. We are now on a budget, are working to pay off our debts smallest to largest and even though borrowing money is not the way to get out of debt, we feel like the increase in home value will eventually allow us to use the added equity in our home to pay off higher interest debt. We appreciate you taking the time to visit our listing and will be glad to answer any additional questions that you may have. Thank You !! |
