Purpose of loan: We would like to finish our basement in order to provide a safe, supervised place for my teenage daughter and her friends to come to rather than having them riding the roads or looking for something to do. Besides the increase in equity that this additional 1,600 sq. ft. of living space will provide, we have recently experienced a high number of teenage traffic accidents and alcohol related incidents in our area including the death of a friend of my daughter's who she went to school with and we would like to try to do something to get more kids to stay in a safer environment to watch movies, play games, listen to music, etc. but have some adult supervision. We know we cannot keep all of the automobile accidents or alcohol related incidents from occurring but we want the kids to come to our house in the evenings or after football games in the fall, rather than looking for places to go or things to do. The increase in value to our home will be an added benefit as we can conservatively estimate that this amount of finished, heated living space will add $ 25,000 - $ 30,000 to the home value. Ideally, we would have preferred to have finished saving to complete the basement without borrowing and have saved $ 5,400.00 of the approx $ 15,000.00 that it is going to cost to complete the basement but we now feel like this is something that we need to go ahead and do. My financial situation: We are a middle-class, conservative family who believe in paying our debts and have never defaulted on any loan or credit that we have had. Our credit was dingged a few years ago due to an extended illness but we are back on track now and my wife has gone back to work. I have been employed by the same company for the past 28+ years and will celebrate my 29 year service anniversary at the end of May. Monthly net income: $ I currently make $ 110,000.00 per year and can provide W2's substantiating that amount for the past 3 years. Monthly expenses: $ Housing: $ 2,840.00 Insurance: $ 400.00 Car expenses: $ 425.00 Utilities: $ 300.00 Phone, cable, internet: $ 160.00 Food, entertainment: $ 350.00 Clothing, household expenses $ 200.00 Credit cards and other loans: $ 800.00 Other expenses: $ 300.00 Total: 5775.00 |
