Hi everyone! I started my credit repair a few months ago (want to buy a house in a couple years) and have made great strides. My credit problems began when I separated from my ex husband. The day he moved out, I was laid off. I was doing pretty good at keeping up on all my payments (using savings & unemployment), then my daughter had a severe asthma attack, which set me back (no longer had insurance). I continued to work with my creditors and actually pulled myself out of the hole I was in. I closed all of my credit cards at that point, trying to keep myself out of trouble. I walked away with a couple dings but nothing major (so I thought). As I started working on my credit a few months ago, I found out that my ex had re-opened one of our CC accounts (we had not used the account and it had gone dormant and was subsequently closed by the creditor) got a credit line increase and charged it up and let it go. I never knew as the statements were being sent to him and I hadn't checked my credit report. The interest and fees over a couple years pushed it to double what was actually owed. Because it was initially a joint account, they allowed him to re-open it without my consent. I also was recently contacted by the hospital my daughter went to for her asthma attack. My ex never paid his portion of that bill either. I could sit back and wait for the Statute of Limitations to run out on these but the hospital saved my daughter's life, the least I can do is pay them what is owed (they haven't charged me a dime of interest or fees or sent it to a collection agency thank goodness). Looking back, I should have contacted them and made SURE he had paid. I also shouldn't have been using my credit cards so much if I couldn't pay them in full each month. A hard lesson learned in financial responsibility. My Experian shows 4 delinquencies. Three of these are the hospital bill & credit card I spoke of previously (the hospital bill is listed twice). The fourth is 2 late payments on my truck during the time I was laid off. The truck was later totaled and I purchased another car that is paid for. I have now established a few new accounts and I pay in full each month. I never charge more than I can afford to pay each month. I want to pay these two bills (the CC and hospital bill) off completely in one lump sum, if I can. My current income is $36k per year and I've been with my company for 6 years (not including my 8 month layoff). I am willing to provide paycheck stubs for anyone who would like proof of income. My only monthly expenses are housing ($560), utilities, groceries and about $150 for gas. I only use my credit cards for gas and small items and again, I pay in full anytime I have a balance. I only need $2300 (not including the interest and fees that may accrue on the CC before it is paid) to pay these items but my state minimum is $3001. If my loan is funded, I will use the overage to pay towards the loan. I have also listed at the max APR for my state. I appreciate your consideration! |
