I am asking for this loan because my husband and I are in the middle of a major kitchen remodel.    I got into deep debt starting in 2000.  I became ill.  The short version of the story is that I had a brain tumor that had caused my body to not function well.  In 2001 I had that tumor removed, and six months later needed another surgery.

Between the years 2000 and 2004 I had a total of four surgeries.  This created a huge financial burden on my family.    Between paying for surgeons, doctors, labs, tests, etc I ended up owing $100,000.  This is after insurance paid their portion.  My husband I set about paying down our debt, knowing our credit was a mess.  That was life and you deal with it.   In 2004 I simply couldn?t work any longer.  I went on first short term disability through my employer, and then long term.  Long term disability ran out in September of ?04.  That left us with only my husband?s income.

We made some big changes.  We sold our home, moved to the country, where we could rely on the land to feed us.  Sold   Took what little left over income we had and applied it to bills.  In four years we paid down $80,000 of our debt.   In 2005 we realized that we just couldn?t keep it up.  We had almost no money for things like groceries and gas; my husband?s wages were being garnished.  I had applied for Social Security Disability but that was taking more time than we had.  We?d always thought of declaring bankruptcy but knew that was the final step.  In May of 2005 we filed.

Since our discharge in August we?ve been doing so well.  I was approved for Social Security Disability (verification available upon request), which added much needed funds to our income.

We?ve not paid anything late since bankruptcy.  We no longer struggle month to month and have been able to save up for our kitchen remodel.

Some have asked about our three public records.  As I mentioned my husband?s wages were garnished when we couldn?t pay certain creditors fast enough.   They are:
Public Record #1 Debt Collector          Amount:  $1376    Status: Paid
Public Record #2 Bankruptcy
Public Record #3 Debt Collector          Amount:  $1461
Explanation on status:  This collector sued us and garnished wages after we declared bankruptcy.  It should say dismissed but it shows active.  This is something I am working on right now.  The two lawsuits were medical debt, as is the majority of the derogative on my credit report.

I also have lots of inquiries.  Some are from a refinance of our home (to 6.875% for 30 years); others are because I have obtained some new credit.  Again, all delinquencies are from before 2005, and 98% were medical.

The last thing I want to do is blame anyone or anything for our financial struggles.  We?re adults and know better.  We should?ve had savings; we could?ve worked with our creditors better.    This loan would help us in so many ways.  First it would be a positive on my credit report.  Second it would actually help us finish our kitchen (which was in bad, bad shape).  Finally, it would give us a positive history on Prosper.   I appreciate your time in looking over my listing.  Please contact me should you have any questions, want verification of anything.  Please note that my other credit scores are:TransUnion 611 and Equifax 599.   Thank you, Cushie/Shauna
