Down to the last couple bites of this Elephant. I am trying to pay off the mortgage on the Sweet Home to free up income to payoff IRS debt. Looking to be out of debt in the next 18 months.

In 2001 I got a wake up call. On New Years Day my husband of 4 years got up and told me he wanted a divorce. I had no idea what a mess this was going to be. Not a clue that he hadn?t made the mortgage in 3 months. Not a clue that he owed over $160,000 in lines of credit and credit cards alone. It?s wasn?t like I just fell off the turnip wagon and had no clue of finance. I was a Foreclosure Specialist for a large Real Estate Company, so image how upset I was that my own home was about to come to my desk to start pre-foreclosure. Within months of the divorce he filed bankruptcy, including a substantial sum he owed to the IRS. Yes, folks you can file and have dismissed IRS debt. It is a loop hole, that even their own agents know little of.
Although, in hind sight I should have also filed bankruptcy, I felt that this was equivalent to being a thief. I began to pay off any debt that I may have received benefit from. Needless to say this has made my credit report look like a Tornado hit it. Things were looking up, when we found out my dad had Colon Cancer. He was a farmer all his life and had little retirement to fall back on. I had to step up and assume his bills. He has been cancer free for a year and half, but will never work again. It?s been a struggle to cover it all but we are making it. Thank you for your help.
