I finally got brave and decided to take a look at my credit reports. As
I was reading it (only 2 discrepancies), I became very dismayed. I was
the one who said I would rather work myself into an early grave than
file for bankruptcy. Well, after attempting to work several partime
jobs and look for employment (this after working 11 years for the same
employer and receiving only 2 weeks severance), I found myself in the
hospital. I hd burned through my savings and IRA and found reality
starring me in the face. OK, let's fast forward to today. I have been gainfully employed for almost 3 1/2 years. I know I will never see the wages I earned during the dotcom years, but, it is almost impossible to get out of subprime when you have to pay such high interest for credit. I do understand the lenders have to be mindful of past history and make sure their interests are secured. But, bad things can happen to anyone. I used to be the one helping others, and now I am the other side of the fence. I have come a long way from wondering if I was going to have to go back home and live with my elderly father. I am doing better than most. Viewing my credit report made me feel a bit disillusioned. Even with the never lates, I still have a way to go, but now I see a light at the end of the tunnel. If I could just get off of this payday loan merry go round, I feel I can take that next step. |
