Taking baby steps toward being debt-free, starting with my highest-interest loan and building from there to pay off other credit card debt.

I am a professional with a stable work history, at my present company for five years. Having come through a bankruptcy and divorce nine years ago, and a layoff from my previous job five years ago, I have worked my way up to buying a house this past spring, and am now focusing on reducing my high-interest debt so I can look forward to retirement with a more secure financial position.

Currently, I am seeking a Prosper loan to pay off my Dell computer balance of approximately $1200. Their interest rate is very high at 29%, and the monthly minimum payment on the loan is $34/month.

Following is a summary of my current financial position:

Yearly Income: $32,000
(take home approximately $1800/month)

Current Monthly Expenses:
House Payment: $553
Car Insurance: $95
Phone/Internet: $70
Utilities: $150
Food: $125
Gas: $50
Credit card payments: $474
Misc.: $100
Total: $1,617

Available to pay off Prosper loan: $183/month

With a lower-rate loan from Prosper which has a payment of just a few dollars more than Dell?s minimum payment, I will easily be able to pay off the Prosper loan balance earlier than the 3-year term, and start attacking the next high-interest loan.

Thank you for your assistance!
